  1. Why is UTAS the ‘Elephant in the room’?…..no doubt to address the issue would be like opening Pandora’s box

I have given full details of their crime to two Prime Ministers, Mr Hodgman, Ms Goodwin politicians from all sides state and federal, two Integrity Commissioners, Ombudsman our Fourth Estate. An investigation by fraud@pmy.gov.au was under way when (someone) got wind of it and pulled the plug.

How dare you give these lowlife thieves 4.5 million dollars worth or taxpayers owned land. They pluck the most ridiculous figures out of the air re how many students will come etc if they build a new uni. Is anyone ever around to see and report on how many actually come. Since when have student got a lot of money to throw around? Australia’s student debt now stands at $26 billion.

HCC sold them very valuable ratepayers owned land in Hobart CBD,for student accommodation. They refused to say how much UTAS paid for it. How dare they and it begs the question….Why? If all was above board why the secrecy and what about freedom of information. I tried to put the question out there via ’your voice’ in the Mercury of course they wouldn’t publish it. I sent all the details to the editor re UTAS misappropriating funds and giving developers 7.8 million dollars. A few minutes on any computer would confirm the information. No response but a few months late he wrote an editorial praising Ali Sultan.

Check out the Tasmanian Times article on 10th Sept. 2010.

A few month ago Mr Hodgman who knows all about the crime, announces in the paper that UTAS is running short of funds for their new Performing Arts building, so he hands over and extra 15 million dollars of our money. Wait for it……..a few weeks later the paper tells, us mugs, that UTAS has forked out 1.7 million dollars of an old pub as a student hub. Guess who will be footing the bill for the upgrade of that little indulgence. Meanwhile a 95 year old lady is left lying on the floor at the RHH because there are no beds.

Yes, UTAS employ a lot of people in this state but does that give them the right to ‘be a law unto yourself’? To steal 7.8 million dollars of taxpayers money and get away with it. It begs the question why are the most powerful people in this country covering up the crime? Ask a silly question…..……..I heard Mr Brandis say on TV nobody is above the law in this country, but he forgot to add except his mates at UTAS. Mr Brandis knows all about the crime.

This crime was so blatant, I shudder to think what has gone on and will continue to go on behind the scenes, unless someone has the guts to take a stance. I hope you will give what I’ve said some serious consideration before you give defenceless ratepayers land to thieves. They may speak with a posh voice, be highly educated and dress in well cut suits but they are unconscionable, smug thieves, with taxpayers money and no accountability.

  2. Utas has been GIVEN valuable water front land in Hobart, Burnie and Launceston. This has all been without any reference or discussion with ratepayers, residents or taxpayers.
The Maker's Workshops at Burnie consisted of a series of vibrant arts and crafts workshops located in a specially designed building overlooking the sea. After the Burnie council gave the building and the surrounding land over to Utas, Utas barged in, trampled over everyone and reduced the workshops to a tiny few, and tossed the artist and craftspeople out and replaced some of the workshops areas with a boring unimaginative 'gallery' space. To top it all off Utas built shoddy looking accommodation between the workshops building and the sea. Utas, with the Council's assistance, has reduced a vibrant arts workshop precinct and visitor attraction to a shadow of its former self. Shame on the Burnie Council for allowing arts and crafts people and their small businesses to be treated so badly. Shame on the Burnie Council for giving Utas and its greedy land-grabbing preference over ratepayers, residents and taxpayers.

How is it that the university has such power over our councils and aldermen/women that they give away public land to a body that does not pay rates, like the rest of us have to.

Getting angrier by the minute, Louise McK.
