THE COMMENTS
ON ALDERMAN FINLAY’S FACEBOOK PAGE IN RESPONSE TO HER ONLINE SURVEY:
See below
the comments that related to UTas move. All other comments were simply to say
they had done the survey so I have not included them here. The few at the
bottom, thanking her for ‘listening’ are examples of how some people can be
conned by the Finlay ‘consultation’ line. I also left her link to last year’s
so-called consultation. I deleted all the facebook pictures of people but I
left one of Finlay’s and also I left Jason Cocker’s picture to see if any of
you know him at all. (Is it possible that he believes in dictatorship – judging
by his comment.)
Merry Roberts: I did find the uni question a
bit difficult. I’m very much against moving the uni at all but if the council
continue to ignore the citizens and it does go ahead the area definitely will
not manage traffic wise as it is. So yes, if the idiots pursue a uni at
inveresk the traffic is a huge priority. It would simply be better if they
listened and realised it’s not a popular decision and left UTAS where it is.
Merry Roberts No worries Janie, will it
help in any way or make absolutely any difference though? I know I’m not the
only one who feels the council are not listening to us over the UTAS move.
Janie Finlay Merry Roberts there are definitely a range
of views. Personally I support the move - and - know that it will require
keeping the Uni to account with their commitments and require clear and strong
decisions throughout the development application phase and the associated
commitments around traffic management and parking (as two examples).
Merry Roberts So if the majority of
Launceston residents were against UTAS moving to Inveresk would that make any
difference at all? I’m just curious if it’s been a decision made with any input
at all from the people who actually live here?
Nanna Apted When does the council ever
listen to the people who pay their wage. Gave away the land to the Uni. which
is an independant business where the heads are paid huge wages and big paid
holidays. Did not disclose the deal with UTAS for York Park. What will ratepayers
get out of all this ?.
Merry Roberts Interesting how even with
all these comments Janie hasn’t got any more replies. I’m yet to find anyone
outside of the council who wants UTAS to move.
Janie Finlay Hi Merry Roberts I have replies... just been
busy and you all deserve a considered response

Merry Roberts Thank you for listening,
honestly, I think as citizens we are all feeling like no one is hearing us. I’m
glad you are asking, I just hope our thoughts and opinions make a difference.
Angela Walters Yes please leave Uni where
it is. Will kill Mowbray and traffic at Inveresk horrendous
NAME? Done...same with the uni, I think
it's creating traffic issues in an already busy spot. It will mean I avoid that
area, (and the businesses in it) like the plague. Will this extra congestion mean
a renewed focus on putting the eastern bypass on the table?
Shelley Ridgway So much funding and focus
going into the city heart project but it and the preservation of our heritage
didn't get a look in with your survey. Maybe covered in Cultural values
listing but this is very broadbrush compared to an item such as the
relationship with the Hawks FC.
JanieFinlay Shelley Ridgway appreciate the feedback!
I was actually really nervous putting it out there - there are so many important elements to our great city and so many massive projects right now ...See more

Lyn-ann Maxine Harris The uni should stay where it
is there is land to develop where it is now . people north of the bridges won't
bother going to town due to traffic they will support suburb shopping the city
will become less inviting .

A community engagement program has been launched to hear from community members about how they would like to use the Inveresk Precinct as it develops.
The City of Launceston and the University of
Tasmania are working together to seek the community’s input into how the
Inveresk Precinct can become a well-used and integrated part of Launceston.
The engagement aims to tap into the community’s
imagination about possible uses for new public spaces, explore how the Inveresk
Precinct can become a well-used and integrated part of the city, and test
proposed access improvements.
The information below sets out the various ways to
have your say. We encourage you to contribute, share to your networks and post
to your social media page.
